WLA publishes 10th edition of the Global Lottery Data Compendium

Quick navigation

The 10th anniversary edition of the WLA Global Lottery Data Compendium (GLDC) is now available and can be accessed via the member section of the WLA website (sign-in required). This celebratory edition presents FY 2022 and FY 2021 Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), including sales, Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR), and money for good causes, for 144 of 153 WLA member lotteries and sports betting operators, or 94.1% of the regular membership.

Comprehensively revised and expanded, and featuring a sleek, contemporary redesign, the global regulated lottery and sports betting ecosystem’s premier statistical yearbook provides high-quality, accurate, and timely data on the state of the global regulated lottery and sports betting sector.

New data on global sports betting

Over the past decade sports betting has boomed and grown increasingly important to the WLA membership, with half of WLA regular members now offering sports betting among their product verticals. Against this backdrop, the 10th edition sees an increased emphasis on sports betting, especially fixed odds betting: fixed odds sports fastest-growing of the traditional product verticals over the FY 2022/21 reporting period, reflecting the impact of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Expanded coverage of good causes

Good causes are the raison d’être of the global regulated lottery and sports betting ecosystem. In keeping with their importance, this year’s edition of the GLDC features significantly expanded reportage of good causes, including extended coverage of specific dedication to cause by region and globally. Direct and indirect employment is another of the sector’s public goods; in this new edition of the GLDC sample statistics related to diversity, equity, and inclusion are presented for the first time.

Tenth anniversary revamp

In honor of its tenth anniversary, the GLDC redesign features a host of innovations and improvements. New infographics provide an overview and summary of the global regulated lottery and sports betting ecosystem, while callouts highlight key developments in the body text. Use of the color palette has been expanded to regions to better inform the analysis. It also offers extended reportage of key areas of interest including sales by region and returns to society, in line with the WLA’s commitment to continually improving coverage of the global regulated lottery and sports betting ecosystem.

There is much more to discover, and we hope you will enjoy this edition. We take this opportunity to thank our members for their continued support and contributions to the Global Lottery Data Compendium, which underpin the WLA’s flagship research and analysis exercise.
