- Standards and related documents
- Best practice guides
- Initiatives and projects
- News, updates and event coverage
Play for Society
It is vital for our industry that we promote the work of our members to raise money for good causes and positively impact society.
As such, over the course of 2025, we developed a plan to revamp Play for Society, which included: the creation of a new logo – Strengthening Communities, Supporting Good Causes, and a new section on the hub to showcase the diverse causes our members support and how they can share their content with WLA. A communications plan will be rolled out in 2026.

Highlighting the World Lottery Summit
The World Lottery Summit section showcases our biennial event, with latest updates for WLS 2026 in Sydney, Australia, and an archive with past event coverage.
Addressing Emerging Adults and related gambling risks
The microsite: Reaching Emerging Adults – developed together with the East Carolina University Gambling Research & Policy Initiative (GRPI) – to address this particular group and related gambling risks, provides:
- An overview of “What is an Emerging Adult”
- Risk Factors unique to emerging adults
- New emerging adult screen developed specifically to measure gambling risk for this population
- International research section
- Resources and efforts in place by member lotteries & sports betting operators to address emerging adult needs
- Information sheets & rack cards for any market, to inform patrons of gambling-related issues and resources.
Easy access to publications
The Publications section gathers all publications developed by the different WLA Committees in one place.
A section has been dedicated to the Global Lottery Data Compendium, which provides Compendium editions and learning resources to assist members in using this valuable data resource.

The Magazine and its archive is available in a stand-alone section. Magazines are also added to the relevant Strategic Focus Areas, to provide as complete content as possible.
New Annual Review
The 2024 Annual Review was delivered in its new format, with a modern look and feel, incorporating video content for the first time.
Improved overall user experience
The hub has greatly enhanced the user experience, making content easy to find, access and share. It provides latest updates through the news and blog, as well as in the Strategic Focus Areas, to accommodate the different ways users look for content.
Enhancing global data collection
The WLA Global Lottery Data Compendium statistic yearbook provides high-quality, accurate, and timely data gathered almost entirely from WLA members, and offers members a clear picture of the global regulated lottery and sports betting sector. The data covers many areas, including sales, gross gaming revenue, and money for good causes.
This key product promotes and contributes to greater public understanding of the important role that state-authorized operators play in delivering funds for good causes, through the data that demonstrates this contribution.
New digital edition
As part of the new WLA strategy initiative to improve the Global Lottery Data Compendium content, and user experience, the first fully online edition or eCompendium, was launched in October 2024.

Over the course of 2025, the WLA promoted the digital version, and showcased the new features, previously unavailable in the printed version.
In September, the WLA held a webinar, which gave attendees an overview of the new eCompendium and showcased some new features, including:
- Currency converter
- Language options
- Heat maps
- Links to even more data
The WLA President, Andreas Kötter, and Executive Director, Luca Esposito, underscored the importance of the Compendium, which in addition to being a database, is a source of insights that adds real value, and can be used in many ways to emphasize the industry’s positive work to give back to many good causes.

Streamlining the data collection process
In order to enhance the Compendium data collection process from global members, following in depth analysis with ALA, APLA, EL, CIBELAE, and NASPL Regional Associations, it was decided from 2026, to unify the WLA/Regional Association member data collection, using the eCompendium as the central repository for global regulated lottery and sports betting KPIs.
