WLA Awards recognize industry best practices and excellence

During the WLA World Lottery Summits, held biennially, WLA acknowledges and promotes the work of lottery and sports betting members, who demonstrate best industry practices in advertising, and the outstanding achievements in responsible gaming (RG), for members that have achieved certification to levels 2, 3 and 4 of the WLA RG Framework. Here are the results from WLS 2024 in Paris.

WLS 2024 Advertising Awards

The audience voted the following winners for the Advertising Awards:

Best Product Advertising broadcast on TV/cinema

(numbers games, sports betting and instant games)

Winner – Nederlandse Loterij (Dutch Lottery)

Best New Media Advertising

(ads created for distribution via Internet, social media, e-mail, mobile phones etc.)

Winner – SAZKA a.s. (Czech Republic)

Best Corporate Advertising

(TV/cinema ads that profile the organization)

Winner – Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG)

Best Responsible Gaming Advertising

(Advertisements that best convey a message of responsible or low-risk gambling or raise awareness of problem gambling or treatment resources.)

Winner – ITHUBA Holdings (PTY) LTD (South Africa)

The Best of the Best Advertising Award was won by the Nederlandse Loterij (Dutch Lottery) for Best Product Advertising. The Award was accepted on behalf of the lottery by the European Lottery, Secretary General, Arjan van ‘T Veer.

Acknowledging responsible gaming excellence

The WLA Responsible Gaming Awards cover the following categories:

Best FLAGSHIP for Level 2 RG Award recognizes members at level 2, showcasing best practices and innovation in the design of their Responsible Gaming program.

Winner – Lotería Nacional de Beneficencia de El  Salvador, El Salvador

The Best FLAGSHIP for Level 4 in Responsible Gaming Award recognizes members at level 4, showcasing best practices and innovation in the delivery of their Responsible Gaming program.

Winner – British Columbia Lottery Corporation, Canada (BCLC)

Closing dinner at the National Opera, Palais Garnier

During the closing dinner at the National Opera, Palais Garnier, the Best of the Best RG Award was bestowed on winner – the British Columbia Lottery Corporation, Canada (BCLC) – and was accepted by BCLC President and CEO, Pat Davis.

Guy Simonis Lifetime Achievement Award

The WLA Guy Simonis Lifetime Achievement Award was established in 2000, to recognize outstanding service and commitment to the lottery industry by an individual.

During the 2024 World Lottery Summit in Paris, Michael Chambrello became the twelfth recipient of the Guy Simonis Lifetime Achievement Award. He was honored for his dedication and contribution to the lottery industry and its growth throughout his illustrious career. For over four decades, he worked for IGT and Scientific Games. New WLA Honorary Member

The WLA Executive Committee may nominate an individual who has made a significant personal contribution to the international lottery industry, as a WLA Honorary Member, whether or not the person still represents a WLA lottery member.

In 2024, during the WLA General Assembly in Paris, the WLA recognized Fabio Cairoli posthumously, for his dedication to the lottery industry.

Cairoli joined IGT Italy (Lottomatica) in 2012, and served as its Chief Executive Officer from 2014-2020. During this time, he was also a member of the WLA Executive Committee and played asignificant role in hosting and ensuring the highly successful World Lottery Summit 2014, in Rome, Italy.

He was subsequently appointed CEO of Global Lottery at International Game Technology PLC (IGT), a position he held until his untimely demise.

Cairoli was also a member of the European Lottery Association’s Executive Committee.
