Last year marked the beginning of a new chapter for Brightstar Lottery. In July 2025, the company returned to its roots as a pure play lottery business. Following the transition, Brightstar unveiled an evolved sustainability strategy to reflect the company’s new focus, anchored by three guiding elements: Empowering Our People, Collaborating with Partners, and Preserving the Planet.

These elements shape the company’s operations, innovations, and growth, ensuring that sustainability remains embedded across every aspect of the business.
“Our newly released 2025 Sustainability Report is the first one that details how Brightstar, as a pure play lottery company, will approach sustainability moving forward,” says Wendy Montgomery, Senior Vice President, Branding, Communications, and Sustainability. “We’ve made meaningful progress over the course of the past year in bringing our sustainability strategy to life.”
For example, Brightstar’s Sustainable Procurement Policy was evolved to further embed environmental and social considerations throughout the supply chain, reinforcing the company’s commitment to responsible sourcing and supplier accountability. “We’ve now started to roll out a strengthened process for evaluating suppliers, which includes ESG [environmental, social, and governance], financial, and reputational risk screening,” says Montgomery.

The company is also evolving its practices related to product design and packaging. “We advanced a structured eco-design roadmap, taking into account the end-to-end supply chain and life cycle of a product,” explains Stefania Colombo, Senior Director, Global Sustainability. “In practice, it means our design process will be factoring in everything from the raw materials that go into a product and the recyclability of those materials, to the product’s energy usage, to the efficiency of its packaging and how it is shipped.” Advancing eco-design practices aims to contribute to the company’s long-term goals for reducing environmental impacts and accelerating the transition toward more circular solutions. This approach is illustrated in the development of Brightstar’s new Retailer Pro S2 lottery terminal.

2025 Achievements
As Brightstar progressed in its sustainability journey throughout 2025, the company’s achievements include:

Matching gifts donations were made to 95 charitable organizations, and the company supported 15 new charitable events through its Community Request Program.
- Hosting, in collaboration with the Indiana Council on Problem Gambling, the Emerging Adults Summit, which brought together experts, advocates, and industry stakeholders from across the U.S. and Canada to share insights and strategies focused on gambling behaviors among emerging adults.
Preserving the Planet
- Introducing an AI-powered route optimization tool to support automated field service technician dispatching that, based on internal evaluations, contributed to reducing travel distance and fuel consumption across selected operations, while enhancing overall operational efficiency.
- Integrated eco-design principles into various product development processes, including the Retailer Pro S2 lottery terminal, which, according to an assessment of the approach, supported the optimization of material use, improvements in energy performance, and addressing of key environmental impacts across the product lifecycle.
Early in 2026, Brightstar introduced an evolved sustainability plan, which sets the targets and goals the company will work to achieve over the next several years, following the course set out in the sustainability strategy. “Our enhanced plan will guide how we continue to drive innovation going forward, create long-term value, and ensure that sustainability remains at the core of the business,” said Montgomery.
