New Hampshire Lottery – David Ortiz Event - 22 January 2026
The New Hampshire Lottery gave student reporters the assignment of a lifetime for their school paper: interview David Ortiz on the anniversary of signing his first contract with the Boston Red Sox. On January 22, 2026, David Ortiz visited The Brook in Seabrook, NH for a public Q&A session. But before he took the stage with sports media personality Mike Mutnansky, Ortiz sat down with three high school student reporters.
Because all sports betting profits in New Hampshire are earmarked for public education, the Lottery consistently aims to involve its beneficiaries – NH students – in high profile athlete events. Ahead of the event, the Lottery worked with school advisors to identify three high school reporters to participate in the interviews: Ailish Honda, a senior at Portsmouth High School, Alex Dobbins, a senior at Exeter High School, and Amelia Kudla, a sophomore at Winnacunnet High School. Each student was initially planned to have five minutes with Ortiz to ask a set of questions that would source their article. The students were ushered in one-by-one to the green room, alongside their advisor and one parent, where they were seated right next to Ortiz. He was kind enough to extend the planned five minutes to nearly ten for each student, who were all beaming with excitement. The students asked questions about every aspect of his playing career – from on-field performance to off-field experiences – and Ortiz answered each one thoughtfully and candidly. The students referred to it as a “once in a lifetime” experience, as they took away great fodder to highlight the experience given to them by the New Hampshire Lottery in their school papers.
